On the 8th of April the Australian Government passed the legislation to enable the much talked about JobKeeper payments to start flowing through to eligible employers. The payments will commence the first week in May 2020.

To ensure compliance with the scheme, we have outlined below the step by step process employers will need to take in order to receive the subsidy.

Check both business and employee Eligibility

Continue to pay at least $1,500 to each eligible employee [before tax] per Jobkeeper fortnight

First fortnight 30 March to 12 April

 

 

Notify your eligible employees that you are intending to claim the JobKeeper payment

Send the Jobkeeper employee nomination notice to your nominated employees

Before end of April 2020

Enrol with the ATO

From 20 April 2020. For April payments must be completed before 30 April.

Via the Business portal using myGovID

 

Provide your bank details

Same as step 6 above

Via the online form discussed in step 6 above

 

Specify the estimated number of employees per fortnight

Same as step 6 above

Note required nomination each fortnight i.e. each fortnightly pay

Continue to pay at least $1,500 to each eligible employee [before tax] per Jobkeeper fortnight

Identify your eligible employees.

Ongoing – payroll periods

  • Via STP pay reports; or
  • Manually enter employee information via business portal; or
  • Via your tax agent

 

Submit the conformation of your eligible employees

Each month

Via the Business portal using myGovID. You will receive a conformation email or SMS confirming it have been received

 

Notify your eligible employees you have nominated them for payment

Each month

 

 

ATO to make payment

First week of each month

To nominated bank account of employer

 

Reconfirm reported eligible employees.

Each month

Via the Business portal using myGovID.

 

Notify ATO of any changes

Each month

Via the Business portal using myGovID.
Need to complete JobKeeper Declaration Report.
